About this course

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

The lessons are narrated with an AI-generated voice. All scripts, Scratch projects and screen recordings are created, edited and reviewed by the LAD Code team.

Learn to program from zero, one small project at a time. This course teaches the core ideas of programming with Scratch, the free visual language from MIT, through 31 short, step-by-step projects. Every lesson is 3 to 8 minutes long: you see the finished result first, then build it block by block, and test it right away.

What makes this course different

  • Short and focused lessons. One idea per lesson, no long lectures. Pause, build, test, move on.

  • Clear visual guidance. Every block you need is highlighted on screen, with short notes right next to the code and a flowchart for the trickier programs.

  • Full English captions written for every lesson, not auto-generated.

  • A recap after every project: the new blocks and the programming ideas you just learned.

What you will build

  • Your first programs: a talking cat, walking and running animations, a conversation between two sprites

  • Events and motion: clickable sprites, arrow-key controls, a cat that chases the mouse, a bouncing ball, your own hand-drawn animation

  • Pen and music: squares, polygons, circles, flowers and stars, a little piano, Happy Birthday

  • Games: hide and seek, a race, a maze, catching falling apples, a bird that flies through pipes, a virtual pet, a treasure hunt, a game you play by waving at your webcam

  • Debugging four broken programs, and planning your own final project

Programming ideas you will master: sequence, events, loops, conditions (if / if-else), variables, user input, random numbers, broadcasting messages, running scripts in parallel, and testing and debugging. These are the same ideas used in Python, JavaScript and every other language, so this course is a solid first step towards text-based programming.

Who is this for? Complete beginners of any age who want a gentle, visual start in programming, and parents and teachers looking for ready-made, step-by-step Scratch projects. No experience needed: you only need a computer with a web browser (Scratch is free and runs right in the browser).

What you'll learn

  • Build your first programs in Scratch step by step, from a talking cat to a two-player game
  • Understand core programming ideas: sequence, events, loops, conditions and variables
  • Make sprites move, react to clicks and keys, chase the mouse pointer and bounce off edges
  • Draw your own sprites in the Paint Editor and animate them with costumes

Before you begin

  • No programming experience needed: we start from zero. Just a computer with a web browser (Scratch is free).

Who this is for

  • Complete beginners of any age who want a visual, step-by-step first course in programming
